Standard enthalpy of formation ($\Delta H_f^{\circ }$) is the enthalpy of formation of a substance at $298.15\mathrm{K}$ and $1\mathrm{atm}$.

$H_f^{\circ }=0$ for elements in their most stable state (e.g. $\mathrm{O}{}_2$).
