A galvanic cell can be described using a short, one-line notation. In a shorthand notatation, the contents of anode and cathode compartments (in this order) are divided by two pipe characters (). On either side of the double pipe, the contents are further split by their phases with single pipe characters (). If there are multiple species in the same phase, simply delimit them with commas or semicolons. Make sure to label concentration of aqueous ions (). Note that the solids (electrodes) are placed on the outermost side, and aqueous ions on the innermost side (closest to double pipe).
